Doug Silsbee, PCC is a prominent author, leadership coach, and workshop leader from Asheville, North Carolina. A master teacher, he has worked with leaders in major corporations, non-profits, small business and government in eleven countries on four continents. His unique Presence-Based Coaching encourages clients to enter into strong commitments and to take meaningful and skillful action to produce results they care about. Along the way, clients cultivate leadership presence, resilience, and aliveness. Doug is the author of The Mindful Coach (2004) and Presence-Based Coaching (2008,) and is a Master Somatic Coach with Strozzi Institute. Doug and his wife own Bend of Ivy www.bendofivylodge.com Lodge, a retreat center in the North Carolina mountains. He has three grown children and one grandson.
Doug has had over 30 years experience as a catalyst for change in teams and individuals; the last 20 as an entrepreneur. A former uranium geologist with Phelps Dodge, Doug worked at North Carolina Outward Bound School for 10 years. His responsibilities included cross-cultural and international programs that took him frequently to South America and Mexico. He served as Director for Corporate Programs, where his leadership was instrumental in the development of a nationally recognized training program for executives.
Since 1986, Doug has provided consultation, training, and tools for change to a wide variety of organizations. His work integrates a strong results focus with participative system transformation strategies. The creation of productive, committed work environments is a primary goal.
He has written two books on coaching, and works extensively with individual leaders in industry, government, non-profit, and education. His coaching work supports leaders in building a strong leadership presence, a capacity to enroll others towards shared commitments, and an ability to remain calm and resilient in the face of chaos and change.
Doug serves on the adjunct faculty of Emory University and the Federal Executive Institute. He is certified by the International Coach Federation, and is a Master Somatic Coach with the prestigious Strozzi Institute.
