For more than 50 years, people have turned to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Ž (MBTIŽ) to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and how they interact with others. At The Wunderlin Company we have found the MBTIŽ tool a powerful one for helping individuals, teams and whole organizations transform themselves by improving the way they communicate, learn and work.

Developed by Isabel Myers, and based on Carl Jung's theory of psychological type, the MBTI instrument, determines preferences on four dichotomies:

  • Extraversion - Introversion
  • Sensing - Intuition
  • Thinking - Feeling
  • Judging - Perceiving

The various combinations of these preferences result in 16 unique personality types. You might be an ESTJ or perhaps an ISFP or maybe an INFP. The results of your MBTI inventory help you identify your natural patterns for accessing information, making decisions, and relating to the outside world and coming to closure.

"Whatever the circumstances of your life, the understanding of type can make your
perceptions clearer, your judgments sounder and your life closer to your heart's desire."

-- Isabel Briggs Myers, author of the MBTIŽ assessment

While the basic MBTIŽ is quite commonly administered across a range of settings, we have found that the information gleaned from the assessment is often ignored or misapplied. As a certified MBTIŽ consultant, Karen Wunderlin works with clients to dig deeper into their understanding of the data and how it can be applied to personal development, teams, organizations, conflict, coaching, emotional intelligence, and communication.

Often our clients find that the next level, Step II of MBTIŽ, gives them added insights to their unique expression of type. The Step II assessment gives you more information about personality type by identifying five facets for each of the four categories of the MBTI type system. For example, there are a number of different ways of showing your preference for Extraversion or Introversion, including sociability, talkativeness, activity level, communication style, friendship patterns, task focus and so on. Your Step II results identify some of the unique ways you express your personality type.
